Comics Residency at Makerhive

Young artists, get ready to bring your stories to life! Story Salon is partnering with our friends at MakerHive for two Sunday morning workshops where kids will create, illustrate, and publish their very own comics.

What We'll Do:

  • Jump in with fun illustration warm-ups to get our creative energy flowing

  • Design an original character that's uniquely yours

  • Brainstorm and develop your own story ideas

  • Learn real artist tools and techniques used by professional comic creators

  • Create a finished comic using hands-on methods

  • Celebrate by sharing our work with fellow young artists through small-batch publishing and swapping

Please note: Kids were asking for this class — so we put this together quickly and word spread fast. Space is extremely limited. If enrollment is full, don’t worry! We are planning on offering this again, soon.

Now Enrolling for Fall Newspaper Club

Story Salon’s Newspaper Club is where kids pitch stories, conduct real interviews, and see their work in print! Young reporters and editors dive into every step of creating a newspaper – from that first "what if" idea to holding the finished publication in their hands. They'll investigate stories that matter to them, interview local figures, and craft articles that inform and delight their community.

The best part? Through our partnership with the Rivertowns Dispatch, your child's stories will run in the Little Dispatch – the kids-only section of our local independent newspaper.

Open to grades 2-6, we meet weekly on Tuesdays at HudCo. Spots fill quickly for this one-of-a-kind program where young voices become real news. Check out all the details here and enroll today!
